TASK THREE: CHOICES: FILM POSTER ART.

Moving toward the more specialist side of this module, I would very much like to continue persing my interest in Film and television related artwork, specifically Film related artwork in the form of posters or straight artwork. I was leaning more towards the actor/film character portraiture side of things but realised that Film posters would allow to both work on portraiture as well as developing an understanding of the format of the poster, the art of composition and the relationship between artwork/text.

Ryan Brown 'The Raven' (1963)

John Alvin 'Bladerunner' (1982)

Bob Peak 'Every Which Way But Loose' (1978)

I would forseably chose around 5 or six posters from a plethora of my favourite movies, and revamp them in my own style. I would chose a variation of both new and old movies, perhaps I might even pick one movie from each of the last 6 decades starting with the 1960's (a great decade to start). These first 3 examples are chosen more for their distinctive style and composition than theme or personal interest. Also The artists responsible for these designs are very well established in their field and are perfect for the purpose of an example. Although the level of quality in the artwork is arguably the most important factor of the Film poster the composition would be a close second, with the text playing a strong part also.

The Rageman. 'Un Prophete / The Prophet' (2009)

Ralph Steadman 'Fear and Loathing' (1998).

Drive (2011)

These three posters, being more modern, edge toward the more graphic/photography side of film poster design. I have found already that with the increasing technology from decade to decade that
