RESEARCH: FILM POSTERS: THE 1990's
Although Photoshop was first recieved by the creative world in 1988 It really didn't take off until the late 90's/ early 2000's, and I think this is evident in the transition between the posters of the 1980's and 1990's. By the late 1990's any Idea conceivable for a film poster could just about become a reality, not disimilar to the films the posters were for. Photo manipulation became much more popular towards the end of the 1990's and hand rendered artwork, less so.
New formats were apearing on film posters everywhere. One that stunned visually was the photo collage. The photo collage film poster used multiple still screenshots from the movie to create a larger image. Good examples of this format include 'The Truman Show' and some of the Star Wars character posters. Photoshop illustration also started to replace airbrushed artwork towards the end of the 90's
