RESEARCH: FILM POSTERS: STAR WARS

As a kid I was always mesmorised but the 'Star Wars' posters and still find them visually impressive. They are perhaps one of the best examples of the 'collage' film poster. As the 'Star Wars' text remains unchanged through out the 6 movies the designer of the posters can really just focus on the artwork. I'm also relived that they chose to keep the same style of poster with the newer start wars films.

Due to the immense popularity of the star wars movies the posters don't really need to be clever or groundbreaking. They manage to almost tell the story of the series by using a series of action illustrations fused together. The older posters are certainly more cartoonistic than the newer airbrushed and digitally rendered ones but they all manage to keep the same composition and layout.

The Empire Strikes Back Movie Poster

This poster for 'The Empire Strikes Back' is probably my favourite. The composition is nearly perfect and the full body image of Darth Vader just makes it for me. I think It captures the essence of the film extremely well.
